the story of unkettled
UNKETTLED is a nomadic tea house and recording studio; a gatherer of stories. We travel the country offering a space for people to experience hand-grown medicinal herbs and mobile audio equipment. Our wayfaring node of music and tea aims to bring individuals together to record stories of their lives and work. Many who come together in our tea studio share powerful stories of personal healing, community struggle, and artistic endeavors.
But UNKETTLED doesn't stop once the journey is over--in our stationary periods, we compose original music using samples and themes from the stories that we collect on the road and collaborate with local artists to curate live performances of these finely-woven musical tales. We hope that by gathering and sharing these stories, we can help give voice to each other's journeys. The story of UNKETTLED began when two perennial nomads, Nori Treacy and Hannah Fidler, desired to more fully integrate music, medicine, and grassroots activism into our wanderings. We carried a spark of curiosity--could we create a traveling node of herbal medicine and studio gear that could bring together creatives and community organizers to share their stories and generate art together? Could we act as a moveable hub that gathers, transports, and transforms stories from life in the margins? UNKETTLED's travels are made possible by the kindness and generosity of the people who host us in their homes, offer us sustenance, and share their experiences with the project. We are incredibly grateful for the hospitality and honesty shown to us by all who participate. Wherever we go, UNKETTLED is grounded in: - care of people through plant-based medicinal herbs - protecting the sacredness of stories - encouraging healing through collaborative art - solidarity with artists, warriors, medics, water protectors, wayfarers, and the open-hearted of the world |
